The Pig is Open
The Pig Restaurant in the old Barbecue Joint space on Weaver Dairy Road in Chapel Hill NC has a lit neon Open sign in its window. I'll try it out ASAP and report back. They've haven't updated their Facebook page at thepigrestaurant.com .
Ate there last night. Not bad...menu looks a lot like the old BBQ Joint. BBQ was more finely chopped, which I like, and the sauce (vinagre or hot, I chose former) was better. Its still very sparse, they said yesterday was first full day of business. Kind of a soft opening I guess.
I also think it was whole hog (eastern), with some other interesting menu items. I need more than one visit to be sure, but it is worth checking out. We'll definitely be back. They will be open until 10 on Saturday and Sunday - which is later than most traditional Q spots.
Yes, it's a deliberately soft opening as they work things out. Having been there yesterday, I highly recommend it, but they don't want to be overwhelmed just yet.
Let's all do whatever we can to help them be successful...the world always needs more good barbecue!
