Recommended - Danny's, RTP, Morrisville and Cary

The Danny's I have visited could not be more different. The restaurant in RTP is built for the RTP lunch crowd. It is counter service and police your own. The one in Cary is waiter service, very much what you expect of a typical BBQ place. The food in both is very good. The one in Morrisville is table service, but has more of a strip mall feeling about it than a bbq restaurant.

The sliced beef and pork is excellent. The chopped pork and sliced pork tenderloin is not as good.

There is a note on the menu about a pinkish ring in the meat, apparently an artifact of the smoking process. I have seen it, but it is not very noticeable.

Make sure you try Cooper's in downtown Raleigh. It's been there since the '30s and has excellent barbeque, brunswick stew, hushpuppies, and pork skins.

While I prefer eastern NC style bbq, I do like Danny's. I try to make it to the RTP location for lunch on a regular basis. Its gotten to the point where I always order the same thing: chopped pork, fries, slaw and hushpuppies. Yum

Danny's is our favorite. We prefer both the chopped pork and the sliced turkey; add in corn nuggets, slaw, beans, and banna pudding, and you have a feast.

The bbq is okay, but the service stinks on Tryon Road. The owner is sooooo rude and could care less about his customers. The waiters are nasty too! People should not have to be treated that way.

Disregard the anonymous quote above... It couldn't be further from the truth. Danny is an extremely friendly individual, as is his wife who works with him. The staff is also friendly and accommodating. While he has experienced tremendous success with 3 locations under his belt, Danny is still an unpretentious, modest, approachable, down to earth, blue collar kind of guy.

I don't know where the above referenced idiot got their information...but it was not from a true experience.

I agree-the owner Danny is wonderful! We have been going to the Danny's BBQ restaurants for over 10 years now and not once have the staff been anything but hospitable, warm, and friendly! We like the pork, beef brisket, and sliced turkey. And don't forget the corn nuggets and iced tea! We visit Danny's almost every week.

The best BBQ a New Englander could make, which is not saying much.

The problem with Danny's is...THIS IS NOT NC BBQ. The one on Tryon road served me something that honestly tasted like it had been in a mop bucket. My brother and I could not eat it. The one in Morrisville was much better, but again; it is a much different q than either eastern or western syle in THIS state. The fact that this is considered to be on par with Stamey's is ridiculous. Not to be rude, but Danny's bbq simply does not compare to most I have eatenover half a century.
